As a Oklahoma Sooner Alumnus I understand the nature of the "Big Game" and this was a big game. The crowd of 80,000 witnessed a great game between two of the countries most storied football programs.
In keeping it real from a former players perspective when teams are evenly matched the outcome of the game comes down to who makes the necessary plays at the most opportune time. In the beginning it looked as though OU would have it's way with the Irish as OU's Landry Jones found plenty of open receivers as the Irish defense played a very soft zone that allowed OU to throw to uncovered receivers. Any true football player knows that DEFENSE wins championships and Notre Dame's defense made the necessary adjustments as the game progressed giving OU the underneath gains while taking away the deep ball...SMART. Notre Dame also eliminated OU's run game as OU only rushed for 34 yards on 23 carries...No run game No victory!
I tip my hat to Notre Dame in that they did not panic early, made adjustments, had a balanced attack and their Game Changers quarterback Everett Golson played his best game of the season finishing with 13-25 passing for 177 yards and several key scrambles with no interceptions and Heisman hopeful and defensive player of the year candidate linebacker Manti Te'o was all over the field making plays.
Notre Dame and Oklahoma had not played since 1966 and in that year the Irish won the National Title...Could history be repeating itself?
